How we list law firms

Every firm on Thereby Guide is listed the same way, for free. We show where each fact came from and when we checked it. We don’t rank firms, and no firm can pay to be listed higher.

Which firms are listed

We list law firms that say on their own website, or in a public record, that they handle personal injury cases.

Being listed is not an endorsement. We don’t check a firm’s results or quality, and we can’t tell you which firm is right for you. Our guide to choosing a lawyer has questions you can ask any firm.

Where the facts come from

Next to each fact on a firm’s page you’ll see a small label with its source and the date we read it. A fact comes from one of these:

  • The firm’s own websiteWhat the firm publishes about itself: name, offices, phone, the kinds of cases it takes, languages.
  • Confirmed by the firmSomeone at the firm checked the fact and told us it’s right.
  • A state barA state bar’s public lawyer search, named on the fact.
  • Another public recordAny other public dataset, always named on the fact.

If a fact is old or wrong, please tell us.

What “confirmed” means

  • Not yet confirmedWe built the listing from public sources. The firm hasn’t checked it yet.
  • ClaimedSomeone from the firm has asked to manage the listing. We’re checking that they work there.
  • Confirmed by the firmWe checked that the person works at the firm, and they confirmed the facts shown.

Confirming a listing is free. It doesn’t move a firm up the list, and it doesn’t depend on buying anything.

How firms are ordered

Firms are sorted by distance from the place you searched, or A to Z by name. Each list says which. We never sort by quality, popularity, or payment, and there are no sponsored or featured spots.

Why there are no ratings, reviews or fees

  • No ratings or reviewsStar ratings and reviews are hard to check and easy to game. We show facts you can verify instead.
  • No “best” or “top” listsWe have no fair way to say which firm is best for your case, so we don’t pretend to.
  • No feesA firm’s fee is set in its written agreement with you and can depend on your case. Ask each firm how its fee works. Our guide to contingency fees explains the usual terms.
  • No win rates or case resultsPast results depend on the facts of each case and don’t predict yours.

How to correct or remove a listing

Anyone can tell us a fact is wrong. Firms can also ask us to remove their listing.

Sample listings

While we build the site, some pages show made-up firms so you can see how a page works. They’re marked “Sample listing — illustration only” and are never shown to search engines.
